New Games November
It’s getting closer to the festive holidays, which is always a busy time for slot developers. Plenty of games get released around this time of year, so we’ve collected our favourites from the past month in our New Games November special. We’ve got an eclectic mix on display here, so there’s a wide variety to choose from.
1. Golden Leprechaun Megaways
We start with a slot from a developer that regularly features on our blogs; Red Tiger Gaming. It is known for its comprehensive selection of Asian-themed slots, but is mixing things up with this game. Golden Leprechaun Megaways is a slot based on the luck of the Irish and looks a little like a certain other famous slot that features a leprechaun mascot. However, there are a few wonderful design choices made, most notably in the clean, polished aesthetic, which is a joy to play on. Having said that, the best aspect of this slot is its features, which can pay out quite nicely if you’re lucky.
The first feature, if you can call it that, is the Megaways system. This is a persistent mechanic that changes the number of paylines and symbols, thus keeping each spin fresh and unpredictable. This feature could give you up to 117,614 ways to win, so it’s certainly an intriguing twist. It also means that Cascading Reels are in effect, so symbols involved in any wins you land will be removed from play, before being replaced by others that could generate new combinations.
Outside of that though, there are a couple of outright features; a set of random reel modifiers and a free spins round. The former is comprised of three effects, one of which is doled out after you’ve picked from a selection of mushrooms. The Lucky Ways bonus will turn certain symbols into other ones, forming a guaranteed win in the process. The second, Random Wilds, will bring five wilds into play. Finally, you have Wild Stacks, which can turn multiple reels wild.
While all those sub-bonuses can be quite rewarding, the main attraction in this slot is the Lucky Spins feature. To trigger it, you’ll have to land the scatter symbol three or more times on the reels, with anywhere from six to 20 spins, depending on the number you land. You will again be asked to choose from several mushrooms, which will reveal one of the random modifiers that will last until the spins run out. To add to this, a win multiplier will be in effect and will increase by one each time you trigger the cascading reels. You can re-trigger this bonus by landing another three scatters for five spins, with any additional scatters landed in the same spin awarding an extra five.
2. Ozzy Osbourne
Now, we’ve seen a lot of slots down the years, but this is the first we can think of that is dedicated to a single, living person. However, when that person is the Prince of Darkness, one of the greatest rock and rollers of all time, it’s easy to see why. For those that don’t know, Ozzy Osbourne was the lead singer of Black Sabbath, a huge band in the rock scene of yesteryear. You may also recognise him from several reality TV ventures, though we shan’t mention them. While he’s not as relevant in the music industry as he once was, the man is still considered an icon of the genre and has garnered a massive following over the years. NetEnt could have done the bare minimum here, but the developer has clearly put a lot of effort into ensuring this slot offers a unique playing experience.
In true NetEnt fashion, there is a multitude of features to be found in Ozzy Osbourne slots. The first of these is the bonus bet, which is more like a wagering mechanic in truth. With this activated, you will enjoy better multipliers in the bonus rounds, plus more free spins. However, your stake will double, so it’s a question of risk versus reward.
Then there is a re-spin mode, which is triggered by landing the scatter symbol twice on the reels. This will also activate a secondary bonus, the Charge-up feature. To the top left of the reels, you will see an icon called the Symbol Spinner and another to the right known as the Feature Spinner. These will decide a symbol and feature combination for your re-spin, so a specific icon will carry a bonus effect if you land it in a winning combination. If you land a scatter in the Symbol Spinner, the free spins round will initiate afterwards. This can also be triggered by landing the scatter three times in the base game.
Speaking of the free spin round, you can either receive four or five spins, depending on whether you have the bonus bet activated. The symbol charge feature will be applied for the entire duration of these spins and, if a scatter lands in the symbol spinner, it will offer an extra spin.
3. Vampires vs Werewolves
From the prince of darkness to agents of the night, our next slot is another occult-based adventure. However, while Ozzy was known for eating live bats, this game focuses on bats that eat people! Vampires vs Werewolves sounds like it should be a cult B-movie, but Pragmatic Play has done its best here to craft a really good slot. Considering its gothic theme, it is unsurprising that the game’s aesthetic is very dark, with multiple references to all manner of supernatural creatures. These include both vampire and werewolf characters, which help to flesh out the contextual elements, plus there is a constant, sinister backing track that rings out constantly. It’s a well-thought-out theme that has been executed superbly.
There are two free spin rounds here, both with the same triggering requirement of landing two stacked scatter symbols. These are the Wolf Free Spins and Vampire Free Spins, and we’ll look at the former first. You will receive 14 spins, with the vampire symbols turning into werewolves. This has two benefits; the first is that this essentially doubles your chance of landing a win as there are more matching symbols, and the second is that these will serve as wilds.
The Vampire Free Spins are equally engaging, though are a little bit riskier. You will get fewer spins, eight, to be precise. No symbols turn in this round. Instead, the three Vampire symbols will serve as sticky wilds, if they land and stick in place for the remainder. These two separate rounds may be one bonus in name, but they effectively serve as two and add a nice bit of variety to the whole affair.
4. Santa VS Rudolph
This might be the first time we’ve featured two ‘vs’ games in a blog but, in fairness, this is a wild departure from the other one. Instead of battles between beasts and bloodsuckers, this slot focuses on the age-old war between Saint Nik and his red-nosed helper. We’re not sure how accurate the feud chronicled here is, as we can’t remember Santa ever fighting Rudolph? but it’s certainly a new take on the classic Christmas slot. Like Ozzy Osbourne, this slot is made by NetEnt, and it carries a similar level of graphical competence. However, it also features a complex spins feature, detailed below.
It wouldn’t be a Christmas-themed slot without a few presents. Here, they come in the form of some great bonuses. Let’s start with the free spins round, which is triggered by landing the Santa and Rudolph wild in the same position. You will get 10 spins for this, though the scatters can merge three times to offer a total of 30 spins. In the bonus round, they can land on all the reels and offer extra spins if they land in it. Two different metres will appear above the reels too, which will fill up as you land the respective scatter symbols. Filling one of the metres will then trigger one of two corresponding features.
Collect enough Rudolph scatter symbols and you’ll unlock the Rudolph Spins bonus, which will award three spins with five separate wilds randomly placed on the reels. The other option is the Santa’s Gift feature, which will take you to a new screen with five items to pick from. This will reveal either a cash prize, or a better multiplier, or it can end the feature entirely.
